Demographics of YBCThe majority of the children we serve are minorities. Hispanic children ranging from age 4-18 years old are the predominant ethnic group we serve. Their parents do not speak English and are unable to take part in their education. The remaining children in our program come from single parent homes and have need for a safe and nurturing place during after-school hours and the summer months.
Youth Believing in Change is a faith- based organization deeply rooted and grounded in the precepts and practices of Jesus Christ. We have been mandated to be fruitful, multiply and replenish the earth.
The following values inspire us to fulfill our mission
Faith: The task we face in redeeming and redirecting inner city youth is an arduous one. Our hope is in God and His authoritative, infallible word. Therefore, we do not limit God.
Because of our faith in the death, burial and resurrected Lord, Jesus Christ ,we possess an inherent power to break down barriers, build bridges and overcome obstacles.
Family: The family was, is, and always will be the foundation for a healthy community. Many of the problems we face today are the result of the breakdown of the family. We believe that in order to change our communities we must begin within the context of family.
Counsel: YBC is open to receive wisdom and instruction from reputable sources.
Providence: YBC is open and vulnerable to the guidance of God and we are willing to rethink and revise any parts of our program in order to fulfill our duty to serve others.
Creativity: Utilizing the gifts we have been endowed with, we make manifest the Glory of God and increase our potential to impact our community.
Relationships: Through affirming relationships we integrate our personalities, gifts, time, thoughts and treasures in order to maximize the impact upon our community and the Kingdom of God.
Indigenous leadership: We believe the solution to the problems of the inner city lie within the individuals who are the closest to the problem. Therefore, our goal is to empower them with the resources to overcome their situation so that they can empathetically help others in similar situations.
